“TIED” - Burton and Garran hall’s submission in the 40 Hours Of Film competition!
We were given 40hrs to make a 4-8min film, and 3 stimulus: an item - a bell (we used it as the doorbell sound), a place - the botanical gardens (where they were running) and a quote: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference”. Most other colleges managed to just slip the quote into their films, however, we decided to make it a little more thematic.
The film takes the idea that we have set paths and courses of action that we follow every day (you can interpret this as being set down by societal norms, or fate, or whatever), and that nobody really leaves those paths, despite wanting to (again, because societal norms say so, because it’s just not done, for whatever reason) - and reifies this idea. The string makes the more travelled path visible for the audience (duh) and the main characters don’t let go of their strings, cus, yknow, fate/society.
We were given 40 hours to write, film, and edit the entire thing, which is 7 minutes long (with credits) - quite a fucking achievement! My official role was continuity, but I ended up co-directing, editing, basically bossing the actors and crew around, being part of the crew, as well as having a cute 30 seconds on screen (see if you can spot me! Also count how many times my name shows up in credits, lol). I also managed to fall in love with the main actress, who I originally thought would be bad for the role but changed my mind pretty fucking quickly.
We ended up coming 3rd out of the 8 or 9 colleges that entered, so I’m very proud (it was our director’s first time shooting a short film - he’s a 2nd year visual arts student who’s done one course on film). I spent about 30 of the 40hrs we were given actively involved in shooting/editing it, the rest was eating/sleeping/thinking about it. I’m extremely attached to this, I put so much into it. I also made a shitton of new friends working on it.
ALSO SOUNDTRACK OMFG we were like “Hey Tate can you make a soundtrack for us pls the movie is sort of about this” and WITHOUT HAVING EVEN SEEN THE FILM he just sat down at his piano and about 2hrs later he handed us an usb with the track recorded on it, completely original, and absolutely perfect and gorgeous and beautiful and he’s the most talented person ever. I love the music so fucking much.
TL;DR A SHORT FILM LOOK I HAD A BIG HAND IN FILMING AND MAKING A SHORT FILM YAY WATCH THE THING THAT I HELPED MAKE! Also put it on extreme HD because it’s filmed for that and is better like that.

honestly this picture of laura benanti and connie britton looks like a poster for a movie about two lesbians who go on an ill fated blind date and they hate each other but one of them desperately needs a date for her sister’s wedding to fend off her annoying family so she pays the other one to join her and they pretend that they’re dating at all the wedding events and you know it’s basically your typical romantic comedy they fall in love etc. etc. the end
and they go to the wedding and connie’s ex-girlfriend is there:

and is all “i’m onto you and this little ruse” and being kinda smug behind her martini glass because she herself has landed a super hot (and legitimate) new girlfriend:

so she’s totally winning the post-break-up game. so connie is all “i’ll show you” and ups the ante in getting jane to believe she’s actually dating laura (which possibly involves slightly inappropriate dance floor shenanigans set to “wild thoughts” by dj khaled feat. rihanna) and this is where the tide starts to turn in them ~~falling in love~~
and then this is them by the end of the movie:

this was the weirdest movie ever.
shrek 2 was the highest grossing film of 2004 and is the 26th highest grossing film of all time
I was not ready to feel all the feel all the feelings this poster makes me feel, and I’m for sure not ready for the movie.
